Allah (SWT) says in the Quran:
“O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous” Al-Baqarah 2:183
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, in which all Muslims worldwide fast for the whole month. Fasting is one of the most beloved deeds of Allah. This entire month is filled with prayer, devotion, and community uplifting. This month provides excellent opportunities to teach our little ones about Islamic teachings and values. Moreover we can bring our kids closer to Allah by teaching them small acts of kindness that would earn them good deeds.
At Ideazsuper, we aim to provide you with educational resources or worksheets to help your child better understand the meaning of Ramadan while having fun. Let’s explore how to make this holy month meaningful and enjoyable for your little ones.
Benefits of Fasting:
Do you know fasting affects our spiritual, physical, and mental health? Research has revealed that it has incredible health benefits, such as supporting weight loss, helping in improved cardiovascular function, boosting immunity, improving the digestive system, and more. Moreover, research shows that fasting helps calm our minds and enhances brain function.
During the month of Ramadan, evil forces are seized, which makes it easier for all the People to engage in righteous deeds that eventually increase Taqwa (God’s consciousness) and help Muslims to grow closer to Allah.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said:
“When Ramadan begins, the gates of Paradise are opened, and the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are put in chains.”
(Narrated by al-Bukhari, 3277)
Fasting does not only mean refraining from food and water; its purpose is to gain better control of our body and mind by refraining from negative thoughts, actions, and behaviors.
Understanding Ramadan: A Brief History
Ramadan is the month of fasting and blessings. Fasting(Sawm) is the Third Pillar of Islam. The Holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) this month. All Muslims fast from Dawn (Suhoor time) to Dusk (Iftaar time), seeking Allah’s pleasure and forgiveness. They refrain from eating food drink and refrain from all evil deeds to increase righteousness.
In a Hadith e Qudsi, Allah says:
“Allah says about the fasting person), ‘He has left his food, drink and desires for My sake. The fast is for Me. So I will reward (the fasting person) for it and the reward of good deeds is multiplied ten times.”
Ramadan is the month of prayer, reflection, the Quran, and to engage in acts of charity (Zakat). The last 10 days are the most crucial segment of Ramadan; it helps in spiritual rebirth, cleansing, and the pursuit of redemption. One of these nights is better than 1000 months.
Allah Says in the Quran:
“The Night of Glory (Laylatul Qadr) is better than a thousand months.”
This year, Ramadan is expected to begin on the evening of Friday, 28th February, or Saturday, 1st March, depending on the moon sighting.
