About This Worksheet

Net, pet, wet and jet sound almost the same because they all end in -et. Hearing and seeing that shared ending helps your child decode new words instead of guessing.

Because there is no writing, even children who are still building pencil grip can practise the -et family with confidence.

Activities in This Pack

The pack has five short activities, all using -et words:

  • CVC -et word list to read together (net, pet, wet, jet)
  • Match each picture to its -et word
  • Beginning sounds: find the first letter of each -et word
  • Select the matching -et word
  • Select the matching picture

Skills Your Child Practises

  • Hearing the beginning sound in wet and jet
  • Recognising the -et ending by sight
  • Visual matching of words and pictures
  • Reading -et words such as net and pet
  • Blending sounds: n-e-t, net

How to Use This Worksheet

  • Say each -et word aloud before your child looks for it on the page.
  • Stretch the sounds in wet: w-e-t, then say it fast.
  • Ask which letter is different in wet and jet.
  • Keep sessions short, one or two pages at a time.
  • When your child is confident, move on to the -et reading and writing pack.

About the -et Word Family

Every -et word uses the short e sound, as in egg. In this pack your child meets net, pet, wet and jet. When those feel easy, say other -et words aloud together: get, let, met and vet. Ask your child which letter changes each time.

Say it together: “Get the wet pet to the vet.” Point to each -et word as you say it.
