About This Worksheet

Each row shows one Urdu letter and a few pictures. Your child names each picture, listens for the first sound and circles the one that matches the letter.

This is often the easiest of the three beginning sound formats, because it starts from the letter and gives a small choice of pictures. It builds letter–sound links and Urdu vocabulary at the same time.

Skills Your Child Practises

  • Hearing the first sound of a word
  • Linking a letter to its sound
  • Learning Urdu picture words
  • Pencil control when circling

How to Use This Worksheet

  • Say the letter’s sound before looking at the pictures.
  • Name each picture aloud, stressing the first sound.
  • Circle only one picture per row.
  • Talk about why the other pictures do not match.
  • Do one or two pages per sitting.
