About This Worksheet

Numbers like 1, 4 and 7 are built from straight and slanting lines, while 2, 3, 5 and 6 need curves. Week 1 practises each of these strokes on its own, with dots marking where every line starts and ends, so your child learns the movement before writing full numbers.

Page 1 practises standing lines and page 2 sleeping lines, both by joining 2 dots. Pages 3 and 4 practise slanting lines in each direction, and page 5 draws curves by joining 3 dots. Each page uses a maths block grid with a model stroke at the start of the row.

Skills Your Child Practises

  • Drawing standing, sleeping and slanting lines
  • Forming a curve by joining dots
  • Top-to-bottom and left-to-right stroke direction
  • Pencil control and hand-eye coordination

How to Use This Worksheet

  • Show your child the model stroke at the start of each row before they begin.
  • Start every line on the first dot and finish on the last one.
  • Do one or two pages per sitting.
  • Say the stroke name aloud (standing, sleeping, slanting, curve) as your child draws it.
  • Repeat a page if lines are wobbly, and move to Week 2 when joining dots feels easy.

What’s Next?

Move on to Week 2 – One Dot, where each stroke starts from a single dot and your child completes it with less help.
