About This Worksheet
1 is a single standing line, and 7 adds a sleeping line on top with a slanting line down. Because they look alike, children often mix them up. Practising them side by side helps your child notice the top stroke that makes a 7.
Page 1 practises 1, page 2 practises 7 and page 3 mixes 1 and 7 in the same row. Each row starts with a model number on a maths block grid, so your child can copy the shape and keep it a consistent size.
Skills Your Child Practises
- Writing 1 and 7 correctly
- Telling apart two similar numbers
- Using standing, sleeping and slanting strokes in a number
- Pencil control and neat sizing
How to Use This Worksheet
- Before starting, point out the difference between 1 and 7.
- Complete the page of 1s first, then the page of 7s.
- On the mixed page, ask your child to say each number aloud before writing it.
- Check that every 7 has its top line.
- Move to Week 5 when your child writes both numbers without mixing them up.
What’s Next?
Move on to Week 5 – Practice 1, 7 and 4, which adds the number 4.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are 1 and 7 taught together?
Both start with a straight stroke and are easy to confuse. Practising them together helps your child see the difference.
My child writes 7 without the top line. Is that normal?
Yes, it is common at first. Point to the model and remind them that a 7 starts with a sleeping line at the top.
Do we need to finish all 3 pages in one sitting?
No. One page a day works well, especially for younger children.
What if my child already writes 1 and 7 well?
Do the mixed page as a quick check, then move on to Week 5.
