About This Worksheet
5 combines a standing line, a curve and a sleeping line on top, so children often forget the top line or curve the wrong way. Page 1 gives a full page of 5s to practise the shape on its own.
Page 2 mixes 3, 4 and 5, and page 3 mixes 2, 3 and 5, so your child switches between curved and straight numbers. Each row starts with a model number on a maths block grid.
Skills Your Child Practises
- Writing the number 5
- Reviewing 2, 3 and 4
- Switching between curved and straight strokes
- Keeping numbers a consistent size

- Complete the page of 5s first.
- On the mixed pages, say each number aloud before writing it.
- Check that 5 and 3 curve the same way as the model.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does 5 come after 2 and 3?
5 uses a curve like 3, so it follows on naturally once your child can write 2 and 3.
My child forgets the top line of 5. What helps?
Point to the model and remind them that every 5 needs its line on top.
Should we do all the pages in one sitting?
No. One page per sitting is plenty for most children.
What comes after Week 8?
Week 9 introduces 9 and reviews numbers from earlier weeks.
