How to use this page
Work through the steps in order — watch, identify, hear the sound, colour, trace, write, then check. Most children finish in 10–15 minutes; some steps can be split across two days.
1 Watch
Start by watching a short video together. Seeing and hearing the number 4 (Four) modelled first gives your child a reference point before any activity begins.
2 Colour
Colouring the number 4 helps your child spend relaxed, hands-on time with its shape while building fine motor control with a crayon or pencil. This page pairs the big numeral with 4 pictures to colour, so your child sees the quantity repeated as they work.
3 Identify
The numeral 4 is the most commonly reversed or incorrectly formed number — many children try to draw it in one connected stroke, which produces a backwards or tangled shape. These activities ask your child to circle, find, or match the correct numeral among similar-looking ones.

💡 Say it out loud
While your child works through the sheet, say: “4 — Four.” Verbal repetition alongside the worksheet helps your child connect the number, name, and quantity.
4 Connect
Counting four objects — four wheels on a toy car, four legs on a chair — gives a solid, familiar reference for the quantity 4. These activities connect the numeral to the quantity it represents by counting real objects and matching the total to the correct number.

5 Trace
Trace 4 as two separate strokes: first a diagonal line down to a horizontal line (like an L on its side), then a straight vertical line down through it. Teaching it explicitly as two strokes, not one continuous motion, is the most effective fix.
6 Write Independently
Once tracing feels comfortable, move to writing 4 without the guide. If it feels tricky at first, that’s a normal early stage — steady practice, not correction, is what builds it into muscle memory.

Why is 4 one of the hardest numbers to write correctly?

Should I correct my child every time they get 4 wrong?

Should numbers be taught strictly in order, or can we skip around?
This Learning Path follows the standard 1-to-20 sequence used in most Pakistani schools, which is the safest default if your child will eventually sit a school admission test. If you’re teaching purely at home, reviewing visually similar numbers together (like 6 and 9, or 4 and 14) can also work well.
